Tips for the Guys

  1. Choose at least one dressy outfit (the parent/grandparents' favorite).
  2. For the boys, this might be a full suit with a button-up shirt, a blazer with slacks or jeans and a button-up shirt or a nice, solid t-shirt beneath it, or a button-up and slacks or khakis.
  3. Choose at least one dressier casual. This might be an outfit you’d wear for a holiday get-together or for church.
  4. This could be a button-up shirt with the sleeves rolled up or a polo with khakis or jeans; Nice shorts and a polo work well, and in the winter, a colored Henley looks nice too.
  5. Choose one that says, “This is who I am.” The possibilities are endless.
  6. This might be something trendy, something casual, or something uniquely you. Express your style.
  7. Your options could be suits, shorts, jeans, joggers, etc. I’ve seen prom dresses, a variety of bow ties with dress shirts, activewear, graphic tees, flannel, hoodies, leather jackets, and western wear.
  8. Jerseys and other sports/spirit group attire can be used.
  9. You may want to wear something representing your university.
  10. Cap and Gown. We have a selection available for most schools in our area to use or bring a sibling's or your own. Don't forget to bring something to wear beneath the cap and gown. Preferably, a light-colored button-up shirt and slacks or khakis with or without a tie, but I've had seniors wear T-shirts and shorts, or spirit/sports uniforms can be worn beneath them.
  11. Remember to try on your outfits well in advance of your session so that you can make adjustments.
  12. Remember to choose some outfits which allow movement. Something you can sit or squat in comfortably provides more posing options.
  13. Don't forget accessories.
  • You may be thinking, "What accessories?"
  • Guys love their shoes," from fresh kicks (haha… I know that doesn’t make me cool, but I tried) to cowboy boots. Don't forget a pair you can crease for variety in your posing.
  • A pair of sunglasses can provide a nice option.
  • A favorite chain or a watch.
  • Your class ring if you've purchased one.
  • Wear a hat if that’s your thing—a cowboy hat or a favorite ball cap for some shots.
  • You can toss on a leather jacket or your letterman jacket.
